These funds will support the Infant and Toddler Connection of Shenandoah Valley (ITC).<\/p>\n<p>Grafton supports Virginia families with early intervention services provided through the ITC. The organization teaches, coaches and mentors families of children who exhibit a developmental delay or mental and\/or physical condition getting in the way of their development.\u00a0This funding will be used to provide specialized training related to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify early childhood trauma in infants; and<\/li>\n<li>Promote greater social and emotional development through a comprehensive system of care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cOften, the infants and toddlers in early intervention have experienced, or continue to experience trauma.\u00a0These children\u00a0can\u2019t speak for themselves to tell us what they have experienced,\u201d said Sharlene Stowers, Local System Manager for the ITC. \u201cAs providers, we can\u2019t be naive and think that this trauma hasn\u2019t and won\u2019t affect them. That is why we are so grateful to the United Way fior supporting our efforts to continue to build our expertise in this area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>United Way NSV awards annual grants through a competitive application and Fund Distribution review process that is entirely completely by community volunteers. This year volunteers reviewed funding applications, undertook site visits and recommended grant funding to focus on priority human care needs as defined by United Way\u2019s Community Needs Assessment.
